Junkenomics
This is where the serious Junk meets the numbers.
On this page, you’ll find everything you need to know about Junkcoin’s vital stats.
Introduction
Junkcoin (JKC) is a 2013 fork of Litecoin version and has been the first blockchain to introduce “lottery-style” bonus blocks. Like Litecoin it uses Scrypt as a proof of work scheme.
In January 2025, a new core update is implemented, bringing enhanced features, improved stability, and a streamlined experience for all users, as well as a new mining model with a more controlled and sustainable supply.
Key Numbers
Starting from 2025 (block 262,800), the first 2 years will feature frequent halvings, gradually slowing over time, ensuring JKC becomes scarcer while keeping rewards attractive for miners.
Importantly, the block lottery rewards (3x & 20x bonuses), a cornerstone of Junkcoin’s history, will remain untouched, preserving its unique legacy and excitement!

About Mining
Main metrics
1-minute block target.
Mining difficulty adjusts dynamically after every block thanks to DigiShield. DigiShield keeps block times stable (1 min/block) even with big hashrate swings.
To encourage early adoption, the coins per block were higher for the first 4 days of the Junkcoin 2024 restart:
- 1st day: 500 coins per block
- 2nd day: 200 coins per block
- 3rd and 4th days: 100 coins per block
Starting on the 5th day, the reward dropped to 50 coins per block.
Halving
In the initial code of Junkcoin, halvings were supposed to occur every 1,051,200 blocks (ie.: approx. 2 years).
With the 2025 core update starting from block 262,800, halvings are more frequent the first 2 years, and then gradually slow over time.
Lottery System
While mining, there is a 1% chance that a block will yield triple the normal reward (e.g., 150 coins per block).
There is also a 0.01% chance (1 in 10,000) that a block will yield 50x the normal reward (e.g., 1,000 coins per block).
